BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Alice Read (Auburn, Maine) scored her fourth goal of the season in the 37th minute to help the University of New England to a 1-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in women's soccer action Wednesday evening at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

 

The scoring play came on a low cross into the box from junior Katie Caron (Winslow, Maine), to where Read beat the defender to the ball and flicked it into the right side of the net.

 

Winners of five of their last six, the Nor'easters improve to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in league matches. The Leopards fall to 3-9-1 overall (2-6-1 TCCC) with the loss.

 

UNE junior keeper Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) made three saves to post her sixth clean sheet of the year.

 

For Wentworth, which hosts Endicott College Saturday at 1 p.m., sophomore Jess Gardner (Wilbraham, Mass.) made 11 stops.

 

Big Blue, which finished with an 18-5 edge in shots, returns to the pitch the same day when it visits conference foe Roger Williams University for a 3 p.m. contest.
