GAME ONE:  UMass Dartmouth 5, Wentworth 4 (9)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • UMass Dartmouth struck first in the opener, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. The Corsairs scored on an RBI double and sacrifice fly.

Freshman Matthew Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.) reached on an error and went to third on a graduate student Nolan McManus (Milton, Mass.) single. Junior Christian Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) delivered a two-run double to score both Prisco and Alcantara.
  • The Corsairs got a run back in the third inning on an RBI single and tied the game in the fifth, when, with the bases loaded, a wild pitch allowed the tying run to score. UMass Dartmouth threatened in the sixth inning, leaving runners on second and third as senior Jon Campbell (Snohomish, Wash.) got a flyout to end the threat.
  • UMass Dartmouth nearly won the game in the bottom of the seventh, as the Corsairs had runners on first and second with one out. Freshman Alec Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) got a strikeout and a groundout to send the game to extra innings.
  • The Corsairs drew a leadoff walk in the eighth but a strikeout/caught stealing double play erased the runner from the basepaths and Peruzzi got a flyout to end the inning. With two outs and runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth, the Corsairs got an RBI single to win the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • McManus led off the second inning of game two with a single and came around to score on a junior Michael Petit (Sandwich, Mass.) home run. With one out, freshman Mike Sibert (Billerica, Mass.) singled and went to second on a passed ball before Prisco drove him in with a single.
  • An inning later, the Leopards took a 5-0 lead. Favazzo led off with a single and went to third on a McManus double. Alcantara drove in Favazzo with a sacrifice fly, which also moved McManus to third. An errant throw on a pickoff attempt of Petit allowed McManus to score.
  • UMass Dartmouth pulled within one with a four-run fourth inning as the Corsairs scored on a RBI triple and a two-run double with an error. The Corsairs took the lead in the sixth inning, scoring three times on a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
