WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Sophomore CJ Willis (Auburn, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI as the Western New England University baseball team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 15-3, in Commonwealth Coast Conference play Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Willis gave Western New England a 1-0 lead when he smacked a two-out home run in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, Wentworth threatened as freshman Nick Cullinan (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and junior Christian Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) hit back-to-back, one-out singles. However, a fly out and strikeout ended the threat.
• The game remained 1-0 until the third inning when the Golden Bears extended their lead to 5-0 on a junior Cody Waterbury (Danbury, Conn.) grand slam. Western New England added a pair in the fifth on a two-run double from junior Koharto Shimada (Woburn, Mass.) and tacked on three in the top of the sixth on Willis' second home run of the contest.
• Wentworth got two back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Graduate student Nolan McManus (Milton, Mass.) drew a one-out walk and junior A.T. DiPina (Pawtucket, R.I.) followed with his second home run of the season. An inning later, senior Aaron Lundgren (Portsmouth, N.H.) came home on a delayed steal to make it 11-3.
• Western New England put the game out of reach in the eighth, thanks to a grand slam by sophomore John Bova (Trumbull, Conn.).
• DiPina went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Peruzzi added a pair of hits. Sophomore Matt Ferrara (East Taunton, Mass.) took the loss (0-1).

ALL-TIME SERIES:

• Today was the 34th all-time meeting between the two teams.
