DUDLEY, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team closed out the 2017 season with a pair of losses at Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Thursday afternoon. The Leopards were defeated in game one, 9-0, before dropping the nightcap, 10-2.

Game One:  Nichols 9, Wentworth 0 (5)
After a scoreless first two and a half innings, Nichols scored three only runs it would need in the home half of the third as junior Kasey Ayer (Niantic, Conn.) scored when sophomore Callie Andrews (Southbridge, Mass.) reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Andrews scored on a wild pitch as did senior Christina Drake (Lebanon, N.H.).

In the fourth inning the Bison scored six times with two-run home runs from senior Meaghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) providing two-third of the runs in the inning.

Freshman Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) threw a no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking just one in the win. Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Sophomore Hayley Rutkey (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) took the loss. Junior Rachel Willcutt (Tilton, N.H.) reached on an error and sophomore Libby White (Pittsfield, Mass.) drew a walk.

Game Two:  Nichols 10, Wentworth 2 (5)
Wentworth took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as an RBI single from freshman Deanna DiPilato (Worcester, Mass.) plated junior Vanessa Weymouth (Fremont, N.H.) who led off the game with a single.

The Bison scored a run on a Meehan Sacrifice fly in the home half of the inning and added a single run in the second inning. An inning late Nichols scored five times, including a two-run home run from Andrews and a solo home run from Meehan.

After Nichols took an 8-1 lead through four innings, the Leopards scored a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double from senior Kelsey Gorski (Killingworth, Conn.), which scored Weymouth.

Sears picked up the win while Meehan was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Sophomore Erica Norquist (Rutland, Mass.) took the loss. DiPilato had two hits and drove in a run for Wentworth.
