MILTON, Mass. – Sophomore Kelly Parker's (Branford, Conn.) game-high five goals and four assists helped lift Curry over the Wentworth institute of Technology women's lacrosse team, 16-11, Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference at Katz Field.
With the win the Colonels improve to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in CCC play while the Leopards slip to 2-3 (0-3).
Sophomore Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) kicked off the scoring with a goal 40 seconds into the game to put the Leopards up early. But the Colonels responded with three straight goals to lead 3-1. Senior Jessica Houghton (Billerica, Mass.) brought Wentworth within one with a goal, but Curry opened up the scoring with six straight goals, including Parker's second and third goals of the half, to lead 9-2. Junior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) gave the Leopards their third goal of the game before Curry tallied on two more to make it 11-3 going into the half.
The second half started the just like the first kicked off; a Wentworth goal followed by three straight Curry goals. Senior Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, Conn.) scored first for the Leopards, and then Curry's Parker, junior Alexis Cran (Branford, Conn.), and sophomore Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) scored to make it 14-4. However, the Leopards' offense found life, scoring six straight goals to make the score 14-10. Senior Heather Scaroch (Arnold, Md.) started the run with back-to-back goals. Houghton added a pair, and sophomore Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.) and Banks each scored as well. Parker ended Wentworth's run with a goal to make it 15-10. Holland scored her second of the game to give Wentworth 11. But the Black and Gold couldn't complete the comeback.
Houghton led the Leopards with three goals while Mudge had a goal and a pair of assists Wentworth.
Senior goalie Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) earned the win in net with six saves. Senior goalie Robyn Pacini (Stoneham, Mass.) made 12 saves for the Leopards.
