Wentworth, Colby-Sawyer Split TCCC Twinbill

HANOVER, N.H. -  The Colby-Sawyer baseball team split their TCCC opening games with Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Chargers dropped the first game 6-4 and rebounding to win the second 11-5. The split moves the Chargers record to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Wentworth moves to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the TCCC.



Game 1 - Wentworth 6, Colby-Sawyer 4

Wentworth jumped out early and held off a late Chargers run to win the opening game 6-4. The Leopards took advantage of a first inning no out bases loaded situation and scored four runs in the first inning. The Chargers rallied late with four runs but after being outhit on the day 13-9, fell to the visiting Leopards. Greg Mehuron went 3 for 4 scoring two runs and Justin Martin had two hits and two RBIs in the loss. Wentworth's Doug Papuga (Jr., Branford, Conn.) went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Matt Jordan (Jr., Concord, N.H.) was 2 for 3 scoring two runs. Matt Dannenhoffer (Sr., Bethany, Conn.) pitched six innings, striking out seven and only allowing three runs for Wentworth.

Game 2 - Colby-Sawyer 11, Wentworth 5

Wentworth again jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Chargers bats exploded in the bottom of the inning scoring six runs on six hits.  Colby-Sawyer took advantage of six errors by the Leopards and added five more runs to win the second game 11-5. Matt Rosa pitched 5 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. The Charger's offense was sparked by Ryan Farris who went 3 for 3, scoring three times and knocking in two RBIs. Brandon McFadden had a two hit day, scored once and had one RBI in the win. Wentworth's Pete Oggeri (Sr., Sandy Hook, Conn.) went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

The Chargers return to action on Wednesday March 24 when they travel to Nashua, N.H. to play Daniel Webster College. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm. Wentworth travels to Brandeis on Wednesday for a 3:00 pm start.
