Men's Tennis Defeated by Gordon in CCC Opener

MANCHESTER, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to Gordon College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both clubs Saturday morning at the Manchester Athletic Center.

With the win the Fighting Scots improve to 4-6 overall (1-0) CCC while the Leopards fall to 2-3 (0-1).

Doubles play saw seniors Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) and Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.) fall to senor Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and junior Nathan Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.) at No. 1, 8-2. Freshman Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) and Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) were defeated at No. 3, 8-1, by sophomore Jonathan Frink (La Crescenta, Calif.) and junior Kristopher Marineau (Auburn, N.H.), 8-1. Gordon completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 2 as senior Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) teamed with senior Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) for an 8-2 win over freshman Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.).

Frink made it 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over North at No. 3 before D'Antuono clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4. Lookwhy defated Hall, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, while Casady defeated Tocco at No. 1 as the Leopard senior withdrew in the third set. Godwin bested Maus, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5, and Jeffreys beat Mularski at No. 6, 6-1, 6-3.

The Leopards are at Western New England on Tuesday.
