Men's Tennis Cruises Past Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team picked up its first shutout win of the season the as Leopards blanked Lesley, 9-0, Friday night at Buckingham, Browne, & Nichols.

Snapping a two-match losing streak, Wentworth improves to 4-7 overall while the Lynx fall to 1-5.

Senior Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) earned an 8-2 win over senior Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and freshman William Sgro (North Haven, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) teamed with freshman Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) to pick up an 8-1 win at No. 2 over sophomore Beowulf Urban (Middleton, Maine) and sophomore Evan Flaherty (Scituate, Mass.). Freshman Matt Roberts (Westfield, mass.) and Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) gave the visitors a 3-0 lead with their 8-4 win over sophomore Gerry Chica (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Peter Weiss (Longmeadow, Mass.).

Tocco gave Wentworth a 4-0 lead when he kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marcolini before Mularski clinched the match for the Leopards with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Flaherty at No. 5. Hall earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Urban at No. 2, Maus needed three sets (7-5, 2-6, 10-6) to defeat Sgro at No. 4, Roberts bested sophomore pat Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.), 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6, and North defeated Chica, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 3.

Wentworth hosts Curry at Regis College on Wednesday night (April 18).
