BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott softball pitchers allowed no runs on Saturday afternoon in a CCC doubleheader with Wentworth as the Gulls improved to 15-11 (9-1 CCC). Pitchers Nell O'Connor (Harwich, Mass.) and Kayla Carignan (Laconia, N.H.) picked up the wins in the circle for games one and two, respectively.
Wentworth dropped to 10-19 (1-11 CCC) following the twinbill loss.
Game One: Endicott 8, Wentworth 0 (6 inn.)
Sophomore centerfielder Alexandra Moise (North Reading, Mass.) cracked two doubles including one to deep centerfield that plated two runners to lead the Gulls. Junior Byrne Katz (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Kelley Michael (Ipswich, Mass.) also had RBI hits in this game.
O'Connor pitched game one, allowing just one hit while issuing no walks and striking out three. She improved to 5-2 on the season.
The Gulls plated their first run in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly to left by Katz that scored Colleen Martin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).
Endicott then tacked three runs in the third and fourth innings to go up 7-0. Moise hit her two-RBI double in the third along with a RBI single to center by Michael. In the fourth, two Leopard errors led to three more runs by the Gulls.
Endicott was able to score a walk-off run in the bottom of the sixth off a passed ball to end the game in six innings.
Wentworth's freshman catcher Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) had her team's lone hit of the game, a single through the left side of the Endicott infield in the fourth inning. Sam Burgner (Dalton, Mass.) took the loss to fall to 6-14 on the season.
Game Two: Endicott 10, Wentworth 0 (5 inn.)
Endicott took advantage of 14 walks issued by Wentworth pitchers en route to a 10-0 win in game two. Gulls junior first baseman Nicole Devlin (Dudley, Mass.) led the Blue and Green with three RBI including two on a double to left field in a four-run second inning. She also walked once while scoring two runs.
Alli Noyes (Tewksbury, Mass.), Shelby Phillips (Taunton, Mass.), and Nicolette Delvecchio (Stoneham, Mass.) also had RBIs in this game. Junior Kayla Carignan (Laconia, N.H.) improved to 4-2 after hurling five shutout innings. She struck out four batters.
Wentworth shortstop Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) went 2-for-2 in the game and Glavin added another hit to lead the Leopards on offense. Wentworth outhit Endicott 5-2 in the game.
Endicott travels to Curry tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm while Wentworth hosts Salve Regina also on Sunday for a 1:00 start.
