WORCESTER, Mass. – WPI junior Emily Doherty (Shrewsbury, Mass.) netted a pair of goals – one in each half – which was enough to lift the host Engineers past Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-1, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Alumni Stadium.

With the win the Engineers improve to 6-2 on the season while the Leopards fall to 5-2-1.

Wentworth junior Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) attempted to put the visitors on the board first, firing a short wide of the Engineers' net early in the opening session. Weinberger's shot would be the match's only attempt before Doherty directed a through ball on the far left side just outside the box, which was set-up by junior Julia Macleod (Medway, Mass.) at 19:38.

Junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) attempted to even the score for Wentworth late in the frame, but sophomore Abbey Teliska (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) denied her shot at 39:40. WPI, which led by one goal at the break, increased its advantage early in the second half as Doherty fired a shot past freshman Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) inside the box at 55:23.

Wentworth countered late in the stanza with a goal from Richard, who trimmed the deficit by depositing a bouncing ball from Annon inside the box at 81:04. The goal was Richard's seventh of the season. Neither team would record a shot following the Leopards' lone marker of the match.

Teliska made a pair of saves in the win while Robinson made three saves.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, September 26 as Wentworth hosts Gordon College, while WPI travels to Wheaton College with both matches scheduled to commence at 12:00 p.m.
