Richard Nets Two as Women's Soccer Runs Streak to Seven

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) scored a pair of goals to help lift the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team to its seventh straight win with a 4-1 win in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Leopards improve to 12-2-1 overall and move into second place in CCC play (5-1) while the Nor'Easters sit at 10-4-0 after suffering their first conference loss (5-1) and seeing their four-game win streak come to an end.

Richard gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at 19:41 when freshman Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) fed a pass from the left side into the middle where she put home a shot to the lower center of the goal.

Wentworth increased its lead to 2-0 at 30:59 when junior Mary Pastorelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) took a free kick from just inside the midfield circle which would go over junior Brielle Robinson's (Monson, Mass.) head.

UNE had a chance right before the half off a free kick from 35 yards out, however freshman Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) made the save just before time expired.

The Nor'Easters cut the lead to 2-1 at 54:18 off of an own goal. A miscommunication on a pass back by the Leopard defense allowed the ball to go in. Off the ensuing kickoff Wentworth appeared to go up 3-1, however the goal was waved off due to an offsides call.

At 55:56, junior Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.) put the hosts ahead 3-1 when she fired a shot from the right side that went in the upper left corner of the net. Nearly nine minutes later Richard rounded out the scoring when she scored off of a direct kick from 25 yards out.

Micaela Robinson made four saves to pick up her 10th victory of the season while Brielle Robinson made six saves for UNE. Wentworth held a 19-8 shot advantage and the Nor'Easters had all three of the game's corner kicks.

Wentworth will be at Endicott on Wednesday night while the University of New England is at Gordon Wednesday afternoon.
