Women's Soccer Rolls to Fifth Straight Win

DUDLEY, Mass. – Freshman Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) tallied a pair of goals to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team post a 5-0 victory of Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match.

Winner of five straight, the Leopards improve to 10-2-1 overall and 4-1 in CCC play. The 10 wins marks the first time since the 2005 campaign the Black & Gold have reached double digits in wins. The Bison fall to 2-9-0 overall and 0-5 in league play.

At the 1:30 mark Wentworth would score the only goal it would need as junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) recorded her sixth goal of the season. Annon scored after classmate Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.) took a shot which was initially saved by Nichols senior keeper Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.).

Scarpace gave the Leopards a 2-0 lead at 19:32 when she broke through the defense and fired a shot to the right side. Reno scored her first of the game at 23:05 when she took a pass from junior Michelle Murphy (West Islip, N.Y.) and fired a shot to the top right of the net.

The second half saw Wentworth tack on two more markers as Murphy and Reno scored 1:27 apart midway through the stanza. Murphy took a misplay by the Bison and fired a shot over the defense at 69:37. Reno rounded out the scoring at 71:04 when she broke past a defender at midfield and dribbled in. Reno and Annon now share the team lead for goals with six each.

Freshman Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) picked up the win, making three saves – all in the first half. Classmate Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) played the last 45:00 and didn't need to make a save. Wentworth held a 30-5 shot advantage and had both of the corner kicks in the game.

The Leopards are at Framingham State on Wednesday.
