UMass Dartmouth Sweeps Wentworth, 3-0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Wentworth women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0, non-league contest to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Thursday night.  With the win the Corsairs improve to 20-6 overall, while the Leopards fall to 5-18.

 

UMass Dartmouth jumped out to an early lead in the first set before taking a 1-0 advantage with a 25-14 win.  The second set was a lot tighter, but the Corsairs pulled out a 25-22 victory before closing the match with a 25-19 win in the third set.

 

Senior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, Conn.) led the Corsairs with nine kills, while junior outside hitter Suzanne Landry (Tiverton, R.I.) contributed seven.  Sophomore setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, Mass.) added 23 assists. Junior liberos Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Amanda Micco (Waltham, Mass.) tallied 16 and eight digs respectively.

 

Wentworth was led by junior Julie Bruton (Montgomery, Texas), who recorded six kills, 10 digs, and four blocks.  Freshman Meaghan Doyle (Preston, Conn.) had five kills and a pair of blocks, while sophomore Julie Rahilly (Nashua, N.H.) added four kills, three aces, and 12 digs.  Sophomore Rebecca Williams (Brockton, Mass.) had 12 assists on the night.

 

Both teams return to action on Saturday.  UMass Dartmouth will travel to Keene State for a tri-match that includes Salve Regina, while Wentworth will travel to Mass. Maritime for a tri-match with the host Buccaneers and Curry.
