Rowing Takes Two Thirds at Head of Housatonic

DERBY, Conn. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team competed in a Head of the Housatonic Regatta on Saturday and picked up a pair of third-place finishes.

The Men's Open 2 boat of freshman Orion Hansen (Orlando, Fla.) and junior Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.) placed ninth in its race, finishing with a time of 20:20.9.

Wentworth entered a pair of boats into the Men's Novice 8 race. Sophomore coxswain Emer Creighton (West Roxbury, Mass.) headed a boat of Hansen, sophomores Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.), Brian Downey (Merrick, N.Y.), Dylan McGuinness (Methuen, Mass.), Chase Manning, and Padraic O'Sullivan (Upton, Mass.), junior Michael Pierce (Chelsea, Mass.), and freshman Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.). This boat finished third out of seven with a time of 16:28.7.

Freshman coxswain Leslie Vongphakdy (Riverside, R.I.) led a boat of freshmen Kristian Hosker (Nahant, Mass.), TJ Dion (Lincoln, R.I.), and Kyle Angelo (Wrentham, Mass.), sophomores Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.) and Kyle Rowe (Eliot, Maine), and freshmen Ethan Butterworth (Cohasset, Mass.) and Ben Walters (Brewster, Mass.). The Leopards completed the race in a time of 18:56.6, which placed them sixth.

In the Men's Novice 4 race, Creighton was the coxswain of the boat which saw McGuiness, O'Sullivan, Pierce, and Kaza finish third with a time of 17:59.8, while the second entry of Vongphakdy, Manning, Boyle, Downey, and Walters finished fourth, crossing the line in 19:04.5.

Sophomore Kirsten Salo (Gloucester, Mass.) was the coxswain of the Men's Collegiate 4 (Non-IRA) boat, which had a crew of sophomore Matthew West (Hingham, Mass.), seniors Tucker Barrett (Leominster, Mass.) and Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), and junior Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.). The Leopards recorded a sixth-place finish with a time of 16:32.1.
