BABSON PARK, Mass. – Sophomore Zachary Kabelac (Potomac, Md.) scored two second-half goals to lead the MIT men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology in the final game of the 2009 Babson Soccer Classic at Babson's Hartwell-Rogers Field on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve their record to 3-1 on the year, while the Leopards dip to 0-2.
After a scoreless first half, Kabelac put MIT in front when he fired a shot from the left side of the box into the upper right corner just over a minute into the second stanza. The Engineers would maintain the one-goal lead until Kabelac struck again in the 74th minute, as he took a feed from junior Christian Therkelsen (Nesbru, Norway) on the left side, made a move past charging goalie Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine), and tucked a shot into the wide-open net at 73:20.
That would be more than enough for MIT sophomore keeper Dylan Rankin (Providence, R.I.), who stopped both shots on net that he faced to finish with two saves in the shutout win. Pearsall finished with nine stops in net for Wentworth, as MIT outshot the Leopards, 24-5, in the contest.
