BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore forward Josh Deschene (Webster, Mass.), junior midfielder Ben Nasman (Lenox, Mass.), and junior defender Anthony Berntsen (Portland, Maine) of the Wentworth men's soccer team were each named Second Team All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches.
After recording four points as a freshman, Deschene has had a breakout season as he is leading the Leopards in scoring with seven goals and six assists (20 points). Two of his seven markers have been game-winning goals and he is a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kicks this season. He had a career-best six points in a 5-0 win over Regis on Oct. 24. In 38 career games (32 starts) he has tallied eight goals and eight assists for 24 points.
A mainstay at midfield for his three seasons, Nasman has been a vital cog to both the Leopards' offense and defense this season. Starting all 18 games he has played in, he has amassed five goals and two assists for 12 points. Three of his five goals have been game-winning goals and defensively he has been a part of a unit that has held the opposition to one or fewer goals in 12 of the 19 games thus far, including six shutouts. He has started 35 of the 58 games he has played in during his career, scoring 16 goals (seven game-winning goals) and adding five assists for 37 points.
Berntsen has started all 18 games he has played in and has been one of the steadiest defenders in the conference this season. Starting all 18 games he has played in, he has helped the Leopards allow one or fewer goals 12 times this season, including six shutouts, and over the course of the last eight games, just two goals. A tri-captain of this year's team, he notched his first career goal in a 5-2 win over New England College on Oct. 8 and has started 32 of the 47 games he has played in over three seasons.
After sitting at 5-6 through 11 games and on the outside of TCCC playoff picture, the Leopards have gone 7-1 in their last eight games by outscoring the opposition by a 16-2 margin. Winners of four in a row – all by shutouts – Wentworth, TCCC's third seed, will battle top-seeded Western New England for TCCC Championship.
