Wentworth Blanks Regis, 5-0, for Fourth Straight League Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder John Deschene (Webster, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others as the Wentworth men's soccer team ran its The Commonwealth Coast Conference win streak to four with a 5-0 win in a conference matchup played at Sweeney Field.

The Leopards wasted little time getting on the board as Deschene fed a pass to junior forward Ben Nasman (Lenox, Mass.), whose shot hit the crossbar but bounced down behind the line to give Wentworth a 1-0 lead at the 3:05 mark.  Sophomore midfielder Dan Santacroce (Northford, Conn.) put the Leopards ahead 2-0 at the 5:39 mark when he buried a shot to the right side off of  apass from junior forward John Golden (Whitman, Mass.).  The 2-0 lead with carry over into halftime with Wentworth holding a 14-1 shot advantage.

At the 60:14 mark, Deschene tallied his first of the game when junior midfielder David Lagarce (Lenox, Mass.) served a corner kick into the box.  Nasman played the ball to Deschene, who found and opening on the right side.  A little over 14 minutes later Deschene would notch his second helper of the day when he fed freshman midfielder Aaron Mackey (Windham, N.H.), who tallied his first collegiate goal at 78:26.

With 10 seconds left in the contest, Deschene rounded out the scoring when he recorded his seventh of the season, which came from both sophomore forward Shaun Doscher (Pittsfield, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Matt Racca (Wakefield, R.I.).

Junior Brian Pearsall made four saves – all in the second half – in 74:54 of work.  Classmate Devin Pleuler (Gloucester, Mass.) preserved the shutout over the final 15:06.  Regis sophomore Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) made nine saves for the Pride.  The Leopards outshot Regis by a 27-6 margin.

The win improves Wentworth's record to 9-7 overall and 8-4 in conference play.  The Leopards close out regular season play Tuesday night when they host Curry at 7:00 p.m.  Regis dropped its fourth straight to stand at 4-13 (2-10) and closes out the 2009 season at Eastern Nazarene Wednesday evening.
