EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team (2-4, 0-1 CCC) opened Commonwealth Coast Conference play Friday afternoon, falling to conference foe Suffolk (3-2-1, 1-0 CCC) by a 4-0 score.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Rams didn't waste any time breaking the ice, finding the back of the net just 4:02 into the day's game on a strike by junior Taj Jensen (Providence, R.I.) for his first marker of the season.
  • After a missed shot on goal by junior Christopher Jimenez (Doral, Fla.), the hosts managed to get the ball downfield and get the tally to double their lead with junior Damon Smargon (San Diego, Calif.) doubling the advantage at the 22:53 mark.
  • Just 6:27 later, senior Brady Sorenson (Plymouth, Mass.) continued to extend the lead for the Rams, bringing the score to 3-0.
  • 6:01 after a shot by senior Nile Keiller (Bowie, Md.) was saved by Rams' junior goalkeeper Xander Balog (Tallahassee, Fla.), Suffolk got their biggest lead of the game on a score by sophomore Diego Pierantozzi (Weston, Fla.) at the 43:10 mark, raising the score to 4-0.
  • Wentworth had a chance to break the zero from the scoreboard at the 78:48 mark as a corner kick by Keiller resulted in a header that went just wide from freshman Zachary Redondo (Glassboro, N.J.).
  • Balog earned the shutout with his two-save performance, while senior Noah Lawless (Whitefish Bay, Wisc.) made four saves in the setback.

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Leopards have won three of the last five meetings and lead the all-time series, 7-6-2.
