BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Aidan Sheehan (Arlington, Mass.) scored with 11:01 remaining to snap a 1-all tie and lift the Endicott College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Gulls improve to 5-5-3 overall and 2-1-1 in league play while the Leopards slip to 2-9-1 (0-4-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott had a pair of shot attempts within a two-minute span of each other but put both wide of the mark. In the third minute, the Gulls had a corner kick but were unable to generate a scoring chance.
  • Wentworth took advantage of an Endicott turnover to take a 1-0 lead at the 5:47 mark. A Gull defender misfired a clearing pass towards midfield where senior Nile Keiller (Bowie, Md.) collected the ball and fired a rocket to the top center, past the reach of junior Kyle Rosa (Norton, Mass.).
  • The Gulls had a pair of shot attempts in a quick span, including one off a corner kick, but neither went on net. However, at the 11:20 mark, Endicott evened the score. Sophomore Conor Rooney (Monroe, Conn.) collected the ball near midfield and sent a pass to senior Tiago Frazao (Trumbull, Conn.). Frazao took a shot that beat senior keeper Louis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) to the far corner.
  • Shortly after Endicott tied the game, the hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead. Junior Christopher Jimenez (Doral, Fla.) took a shot that was saved by Rosa. The rebound came out to senior Jacob Dukeshire (Nashua, N.H.) whose shot was cleared off the line by senior Max Karkos (Wethersfield, Conn.) and sent to sophomore Kyle Hallahan (Westwood, Mass.). Hallahan's bid was blocked, ending Wentworth's scoring threat.
  • Quintero came up with a save in the 61st minute and another in the 63rd minute before Leopard sophomore Sam Biafore (Wakefield, R.I.) tested Rosa in the 65th minute. Both teams had chances to take the lead in the ensuing minutes, including when Frazao hit the far post with a shot in the 74th minute.
  • At the 79:59 mark, the Gulls broke the tie as Sheehan and Frazao worked a give-and-go, with Sheehan taking the ball toward the top of the box and sending it to Frazao. Frazao tipped it back to Sheehan, who beat Quintero to the upper left corner.
  • Wentworth had a pair of chances late, whoever, both shots were off the mark.
  • Quintero made three saves for Wentworth while Rosa made three for Endicott. The Gulls had a 13-12 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
