Men's Tennis Opens Season With Win

PAXTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with an 8-1 win over Anna Maria in a non-conference match played at the Paxton Sports Centre. First-year head coach Tony Moschetto picked up his first victory as the Leopards took a 3-0 lead after doubles play and never looked back.

In doubles action, sophomore James Drum (Madison, Conn.) teamed with freshman Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) to take an 8-6 win at number one. Both numbers two and three were won by 8-0 scores as in number two, sophomore Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) teamed with freshman Nate Schwartz (Chester Springs, Pa.) and, in number three, sophomore Gaurav Tilva teamed with junior Dylan Melnik (Wake Forest, N.C.) to compete the sweep.

Singles play saw Smith earn a 6-1, 6-2 win at number two, Schwartz claim a 6-1, 6-0 win at number three, freshman Seng Ly (Lynn.), Mass.) win at number four (6-0, 6-0), Melnik win at number five, 6-0-, 6-1, and Dowd taking a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six. The AmCats lone point of the night came at number one where Drum was defeated, 6-1, 6-0.

Wentworth opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday against Curry.
