Men's Volleyball Cruises to Fourth Straight Win

PAXTON, Mass. – Freshman Mike Hansen (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded 10 kills on 13 swings for a hitting percentage of .692 to help pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team to its fourth straight win, a 3-0 triumph over Anna Maria in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.

With the win the Leopards improve to 19-7 overall and 8-7 in GNAC play while the AMCats, in their inaugural season, slip to 1-13 (0-9).

The Leopards, who committed just eight attack errors on the night, took a 25-14 win in the opening set behind four kills from Hansen and three each from freshmen Sam Pisker (Mullica Hill, N.Y.) and Alex Potts (Nierville, N.Y.). Freshman Paul Cooke (Ridgefield, Conn.) served a pair of aces in the opening set.

Wentworth held the hosts to just nine points in the second set, taking a 2-0 advantage with a 25-9 win. As a team the Black & Gold hit .524 and forced Anna Maria to hit -.250. Hansen hit a perfect 1.000 in the set as he had five kills on five swings, while senior Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) added four kills.

Freshman Collin Ritter (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had three kills, two aces, and two blocks to help Wentworth close out the match with a 25-18 win in the third set. Sophomore Elijah Egalite (Bayonne, N.J.) and Buonincontra added three kills each with Buonincontra also recording three digs.

In addition to his 10 kills, Hansen had three blocks. Buonincontra had seven kills on 10 swings (.700) to go along with eight digs, while Potts finished with six kills on eight swings (.750). Ritter had five kills, three aces, 29 assists, and three blocks.

The Leopards travel to Mount Ida on Sunday for a tri-match against the Mustangs and Albertus Magnus.
