Softball Falls Twice on Southern Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team dropped a pair of games on Thursday as the Leopards continued play at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic. Wentworth was defeated by the University of the Cumberlands, 15-0, before mounting a rally but falling short to Baptist Bible, 6-5.

Against Cumberlands, an NAIA institution, junior Paige Mochi (Cambridge, Mass.) and sophomore Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) each recorded a double, while freshman Karsyn Sawyer (Chatham, N.Y.) had a single to account for the Leopards' offense.

Sophomore Anna Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) took the loss in the circle for Wentworth.

Game two saw the Leopards take a 3-0 lead in the first inning as freshman Erin McKinnon (Berlin, Conn.), who led off with a walk, scored on a Glavin single, Sawyer drove in sophomore Devinn Doherty (Bridgewater, Mass.) with a single, and junior Haylee Bacik (Lowell, Mass.) doubled in Glavin.

Baptist Bible scored single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings to tie it and took a 6-3 lead in the home half of the sixth inning with a three-run home run.

The Leopards scored twice in the top of the seventh to make it a one-run game on a Glavin home run the Defenders recorded a groundout to end the contest.

Freshman Kate Lee (Spruce Head, Maine) took the loss for Wentworth (2-6), which closes out its spring trip tomorrow against the University of St. Joseph.
