Bard Pulls Away from Women's Lacrosse

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Five goals and four assists from junior Izzi Popolizio (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) helped lift the Bard College women's lacrosse team (1-3) to an 18-4 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology (0-2) on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Maggie McCann (North Grafton, Mass.) gave Wentworth a 1-0 lead with a goal just 44 seconds into the contest. The lead was short-lived as Bard tied the game 38 seconds later but McCann put the Leopards back on top, with a goal with 9:43 left in the first quarter. The Raptors scored the next four goals to take a 5-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.
  • Popolizio put the hosts ahead, 6-2, with a goal with 13:45 left before freshman Kiki Dempsey (Stonington, Conn.) cut the lead to 6-3 38 seconds later. After Popolizio put Bard on top, 7-3, junior Kaitlyn Kozak (Saddle Brook, N.J.) scored a player-down goal with 6:46 left, trimming the lead to 7-4.
  • The Raptors pulled away, scoring the next 11 goals of the contest, including tallying five times in the third quarter.
  • In addition to McCann, Dempsey, and Kozak scoring for the Black & Gold, junior Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) won four draw controls and senior Kristina Arabatzis (Saco, Maine) scooped up seven ground balls. Junior Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made 11 saves on the afternoon.
