Women's Lacrosse Opens CCC Play at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Twelve student-athletes tallied at least one point each – including three goals and two assists from sophomore Sydney Balotin (Syracuse, N.Y.) – as the University of New England women's lacrosse team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 20-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • University of New England got off to a fast start, scoring six times in the game's first 5:31 and led, 8-0 after the first quarter. Of those eight goals, three were scored by Balotin.
  • The Nor'Easters added four more in the second quarter to take a 12-0 lead at the break and added four goals in each of the final two quarters to account for the scoring.
  • Sophomore Maggie McCann (North Grafton, Mass.) won a team-high five draw controls and was one of four student-athletes with three ground balls. Graduate student Mckenzie Matz (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Bella Gillis (Danvers, Mass.) each caused two turnovers.
  • Junior Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made eight saves.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Today was the 10th all-time meeting between the two teams.
