WENHAM, Mass. - Gordon broke open a 1-1 tie with 5 consecutive goals in the second period and defeated visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology 13-6 on a cold and rainy day at the Brigham Athletic Complex. Zac Blue and Danny Mack led the Fighting Scots attack with 3 goals apiece while freshman goalkeeper Houston Zemanski continued his strong play in the cage, posting 6 saves.


Gordon struck first at the 9:15 mark of the opening period on a goal from Jake Patterson assisted by Wes Chittick. However, the Leopards tied the score before the end of the period on an unassisted marker from Matt Cox.


With the score deadlocked at 1-1, Gordon scored 5 goals in less than 8 minutes, led by Zac Blue's 2 goals, and single markers from Chittick, Mack, and James Blue, to take a commanding 6-1 lead into the intermission.


The visitors made a strong push to start the 3rd period as Caleb Daigneault and Mike Swenson scored within 20 seconds of each other to cut the lead to 6-3. After an unassisted goal from Andrew Kirkaldy, the Leopards drew within 3 again on a tally from Patrick Helfrich. Up 7-4 with 20 minutes remaining in the contest, Gordon took total control, scoring the next 6 goals of the match to take a 13-4 advantage. During this spurt Dan Utz scored 3 times, while Kirkaldy, Mack, and Zac Blue added single markers. Wentworth scored the final 2 goals of the match to finish within 13-6.


Fresh of being named TCCC Rookie of the Week, Houston Zemanski had another strong day in net to move his record to 4-2 overall. Benjamin Stewart played the last 9:15 for Gordon, allowing 2 goals and registering a single save. Sean Tobin and Jared Proulx split the goaltending duties for Wentworth.


The Fighting Scots outshot Wentworth 48-23. Mack and Kirkaldy both fired 9 shots apiece, while junior defender Stuart Knechtle led all players with 9 ground balls.


Gordon is now 5-3 overall and stands tied for 2nd in TCCC action with a 3-1 record. They will travel to Henniker, NH to face New England College at 4PM on Thursday. Wentworth drops to 2-4 overall and is 1-3 in conference play. The Leopards will host Anna Maria at 7PM on Thursday.
