Colonels Tame Leopards, 18-11

MILTON, Mass. - Sophomore attack Evan Hammersley (Lynnfield, Mass.) posted another nine-point effort on four goals and five assists to lead his team past Wentworth 18-11 on Wednesday in Milton.  This is the first time the Colonels have defeated the Leopards in twelve meetings.  With the win, the Colonels improve to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Leopards fall to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

 

Curry took an early 7-1 lead in the first quarter.  Hammersely wasted no time scoring his first of four goals at the 13:01 mark.  He would go on to score one more before Wentworth got on the board.  A goal by freshman Mark Pappas (Worcester, Mass.) would bring the Leopards within one but Curry realed off five more goals in the last three minutes of the period.

 

The Colonels would outscore the Leopards 5-1 in the second quarter to hold a 12-3 advantage heading into half-time.  



Wentworth led the second half in scoring with eight, but Curry's six goals would help to hold on for the win.



Curry got goals from six different players.  Sophomore Sean Gallagher (Topsfield, MA) led the team in goals with five.  Freshman Joseph Natale (Haverhill, Mass.) scored three goals and dished out an assist, junior Michael Snyder (Lee, Mass.) also scored three and junior Kyle Abbott (Ashland, Mass.) and sophmores Russell Lanham (Silver Spring, MD) and Matthew Harlow (Melrose, Mass.) each tallied one.

 

Senior Jeff Novak (Killingworth, CT) led the Leopards with three goals and an assist. Pappas ended the night with two goals and senior Jeff Ryan (Shrewsbury, Mass.), junior Matt Cox (Granger, IN), sophomores Justin Connors (Richboro, PA) and Mike Swenson (East Lyme, CT) and freshman Connor Swanson (Holden, Mass.) each scored one.

 

The Colonels only outshot the Leopards by 48-21 and had 46 groundballs to Wentworth's 26.

 

The Colonels played two goalies in net.  Junior Gordon Holmes (Brookfield, CT) played in net for the first three quarters stopping seven shots and freshman Timothy McGonagle (Concord, Mass.) made three saves in one quarter.


 
The Leopards also played two goalies. In net for Wentworth for the first three quarters was senior Sean Tobin (Silver Spring, MD) who made eight saves.  Freshman Jared Proulx (Nashua, NH) made one save in the fourth quarter.

 

The Colonels will travel to Gordon College, April 10 for a TCCC match-up at 7:00 p.m. Wentworth will host Roger Williams on April 10 for a 1:00 p.m. game start.
