Boston, Mass. – Juniors Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) and Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) had 11 kills apiece to lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team over Regis College 3-0 on Thursday evening inside Tansey Gymnasium.
The win marks the Leopards' 12th straight, which breaks the all-time win streak set last season. Wentworth improves to 18-2 overall, while Regis drops to 8-12.
The Leopards registered 14 services aces as a team, including six from junior Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.), which ranks second all-time for aces in a single match.
Clouse steered the Leopards to a 9-20 lead, serving 11 straight points, including four aces in the frame. With the game out of reach for the Pride, Wentworth scored the final five of nine points, using a final kill from freshman Devin Neal (Lebanon, Ohio) for the 25-13 win.
In an evenly matched middle set, both teams battled point-for-point until Wentworth ran with a quick 4-0 spurt with a kill apiece from Lassiter and freshman Mary Zlotosch (Durham, N.H.) for the 15-12 advantage. The Pride responded with two quick points to pull within one, but the Black & Gold went on a 5-2 run to keep out front. Wentworth closed out the set on a 5-0 run with a kill apiece from sophomore Caroline Rupp (Sayville, N.Y.) and Rogoz and an ace from freshman Jade Iadarola (Miami, Fla.).
The Pride were no match for the Leopards in the third set, as Clouse again steered Wentworth to an early 7-0 lead. An attack error for the Leopards gave Regis its first point, but the home team kept the tempo up with another substantial run of nine points to lead 16-1. The Pride chipped away at the score, and got as close as seven points, but a final kill from Lassiter closed the set 25-15.
Lassiter hit a blistering .625 with just one error on 16 swings, while Rogoz hit .258 and swung into three aces with an assisted block for 14.5 points. Senior Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) also had three aces in the victory, and currently leads on players with 32 aces this season.
Defensively, junior Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.) registered 10 digs, while Rogoz and Iaradola each had seven.
Wentworth returns to Tansey Gym on Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. conference match against Nichols.
