Weninger, Mailman, Ouellette Named All-Commonwealth Coast Conference

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Student-athletes from all nine institutions that sponsor baseball in the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2015 All-CCC Baseball Team. In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected.

Salve Regina freshman Alex Perry was selected CCC Player and Rookie of the Year. Endicott's Nick Quattro was tabbed CCC Pitcher of the Year, while Western New England's Matt Anziano and Gordon's Wesley Arning were honored as CCC Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Curry's Dave Perdios was chosen as CCC Coach of the Year. Eastern Nazarene College and Western New England University were the recipients of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC baseball coaches.

Joining Perry (designated hitter) and Quattro (pitcher) on the first team were catcher Nick Crivello (Curry), first baseman Steve Buckley (Western New England), second baseman Eduardo Colmenares (Western New England), third baseman Joe Haley (Salve Regina), shortstop Kevin Marciano (Western New England), outfielders Cam Farnham, (Endicott), Ryan Kelly (Salve Regina) and Doug Milne (Western New England), and pitchers JJ Branch (Endicott) and Troy DeLeon(Roger Williams).

Second team selections include catcher Chris Travers (Roger Williams), first baseman David Neil (Salve Regina), second baseman Harry Oringer (Endicott), third baseman Spencer Madden (Nichols), shortstop Alex Smith (Gordon), outfielders Cameron Fiorentino (Eastern Nazarene), Mark Fitzgerald and Addison Tarr (Gordon), designated hitter Tyler Weninger(Wentworth), and pitchers Tyler Campo (Roger Williams), David Cherry (Western New England) and Thomas Fitzpatrick (Curry).

Joining Arning (pitcher) as third team selections were catcher Jake Mailman (Wentworth), first baseman Travis Pullen (Gordon), second basemen Justin Wagner (Eastern Nazarene), third baseman Scott Ouellette (Wentworth), shortstop Jeremy Wagner (Eastern Nazarene), outfielders John Arens (Curry), Dean Demers (Gordon) and Matt Hardy (Nichols), designated hitter Anthony Serina (Endicott), and pitchers David Griffin (Curry) and Kyle Pheland (Salve Regina).

Weninger, a native of Chandler, Ariz., had a solid rookie campaign for the Leopards as he batted .333 (29-for-87) with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, 17 runs scored, and 27 RBI in addition to an on-base percentage of .453 and a slugging percentage of .563. He had three hits in a game on three occasions and in his second collegiate game drove in six runs. Additionally he had a streak of 14 straight games reaching base. Weninger also made five starts on the mound where he was 1-2 with a .240 earned run average. In 30 innings of work he struck out 15 batters and held batters to a .250 average.

A mainstay behind the plate for four seasons, Mailman, a native of Medway, Mass., makes his second appearance on the all-conference team as he was an honorable mention selection during the 2013 campaign. This season he started all 29 games in which he played and batted .322 (28-for-87) with six doubles, two triples, one home run, 20 runs scored, and 12 RBI while having an on-base percentage of .455 and a slugging percentage of .471. He ended the season reaching base in 11 straight games, which was second to his 17-game streak earlier in the season. Starting 125 of the 127 games in which he played during his career, Mailman finishes with a batting average of .328 (129-for-393) with 38 doubles, five triples, two home runs, 68 runs scored, 96 runs batted in, an on-base percentage of .435, and a slugging percentage of .466. He ranks first on the program's all-time list for RBI and walks, is tied for first all-time in doubles, is fourth in on-base percentage, fifth in batting average, seventh in slugging percentage, eighth in total bases, and ninth in both hits and triples.

Enjoying the finest offensive season of his career, Ouellette closed out his senior season hitting .383 (36-for-94) with eight doubles, 14 runs scored, 11 RBI, an on-base percentage of .431, and a slugging percentage of .468. His batting average is the sixth-highest in a single season in program history and he led the team with 12 multiple-hit games. Additionally, he had a 12-game hitting streak from April 1-23 and rode a stretch of 14 games where he reached base safely. A native of Lewiston, Maine, Ouellette manned the hot corner for four seasons, starting 96 of the 106 contests in which he appeared and finished with a batting average of .274 with 12 doubles, two triples, 42 runs scored and 43 RBI. He ranks among the program's career leaders in both sacrifice hits and sacrifice flies. Ouellette also earned a spot on the CCC Academic All-Conference Team.

Wentworth finished the season with a 14-16 record and narrowly missed the CCC Tournament with a 6-10 mark.
