Hockey Falls to Curry in Regular-Season Finale

EVERETT, Mass. – Senior Shane Tracy's goal 2:33 into overtime lifted the Curry College ice hockey team to a 4-3 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the regular-season finale for both squads at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.

Tracy's goal capped off a pair of unanswered goals by the Colonels, who trailed by a 3-2 margin with 15:50 remaining in regulation. With the win Curry improves to 17-7-1 overall and 11-6-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference while the Leopards fall to 9-13-3 (7-8-3).

After a scoreless first period, Curry took a 1-0 lead with a goal from freshman Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.), which was assisted by junior Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) and senior Jarrett Kup (Rosseau, Ont.). The lead stood until senior Jake McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore Drew DiGeronimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) set up sophomore Nate Chase (Plainfield, Ill.) at the 10:16 mark of the period.

Curry regained the lead with 1:35 left in the period as junior Zachery White (Milford, Conn.) scored from Snow and Mauron.

A pair of goals within 2:27 gave Wentworth a 3-2 lead as junior Adam Lane (Sarnia, Ont.) scored at 1:43 from junior Matthew Kennedy (Mount Pearl, N.L.) and sophomore Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.), which was followed at 4:10 by a goal from McDonough, who scored off the rebound of a shot from Chase.

At the 11:51 mark, Snow sent a pass in to Mauron who found the net to even the score at 3-all. Curry had numerous chances to take a lead in regulation, however, junior Griffin Cady (Gray, Maine) kept the game tied.

Wentworth nearly won the game early in the extra frame but junior Ethan Weiss' (Troy, Mich.) shot was saved by freshman Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.). At 1:51, the Leopards were whistled for a penalty, putting the Colonels on the power play. Sophomore Jordan Williamson (Okotos, Alta.) sent a pass to freshman Tristan Morin (Unionville, Conn.). Morin fed Tracy who beat Cady to the right side.

Murch finished with 29 saves while Cady had five after replacing senior Ryan Hubbard (West Roxbury, Mass.). Hubbard had made 26 saves over the first 51:51. Curry had a 35-32 shot advantage.

Both teams will play in the CCC Tournament beginning next Saturday. The pairings will be announced on Sunday night.
