Indoor Track Competes at New England Championships

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Seniors Jake Skurja (Stratford Conn.), Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.), and Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) each placed in the top eight in their respective events to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology indoor track team score eight points at the 2018 New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The eight points scored by the Leopards placed them 18th in the meet, which was won by Tufts who scored 110, followed by MIT (97) and Williams (92.50).

Skurja ran in two events on the day. In the 60-meter dash, he posted a time of 7.17, which narrowly missed qualifying for the finals by one-tenth of a second and was his second-fastest of the season. His time, however, was good enough to place 17th out of 28 runners. In the 400-meter dash, Skurja picked up two of Wentworth's points on the day as he finished seventh out of 19 runners with a personal-best time of 50.80.

McSolla notched his third-fastest mile time of the season, crossing the line with a time of 4:17.87, which placed him sixth out of 16 runners and earned the Black & Gold three points.

Robbins recorded his second-fastest time of the season in the 5,000-meter run as he ran a time of 15:13.06, which placed him sixth and earned Wentworth its final three points on the day. Robbins' sixth-place finish was out of 20 runners.

Senior Patrick Hopkins (Lansdale, Pa.) competed in the 3,000-meter run, finishing 20th out of 27 runners with a time of 8:59.88. This time represented his second-fastest time of the season.

The Leopards will run again tomorrow at the USA Track & Field New England Meet, which will be held at Harvard University.
