BOSTON, Mass. – Wrapping up its weekend of meets, the Wentworth Institute of Technology indoor track team competed at the USA Track & Field Meet held Sunday at Harvard University.
Freshman Marina Schmid (Mendon, Mass.) competed in both the women's 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump. In the hurdles she ran a personal-best time of 10.67 which placed her 12th out of 15 in the event. She also placed seventh in the triple jump, jumping 10.02 meters (32 feet, 10.50 inches).
The men's 60-meter dash saw sophomore Luke Trickey (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Abderrahman Boukaa (Casablanca, Morocco) run, finishing with times of 7.703 and 7.710, respectively. Trickey placed 31st while Boukaa was 32nd.
Senior Jake Skurja (Stratford, Conn.) led a trio of Leopards in the 200-meter dash as he finished third among 52 runners with a time of 22.43. Trickey placed 30th (25.03) and Boukaa was 34th (25.21).
In the 400-meter dash, junior Chris Kaberle (Pelham, N.H.) placed 21st after crossing the line with a time of 55.56, while freshman Alexis Umana (Revere, Mass.) was 23rd, finishing with a personal-best time of 55.80.
Senior Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, Mass.) knocked a second and a half off his personal best time in the 800-meter run as he finished second out of 38 runners with a time of 1:55.18.
Wentworth had six entries in the mile, with two of those runners finishing among the top 25 in the 63-runner event. Senior Alex Robbins (Marshfield, Mass.) finished 13th after a personal-best time of 4:24.82, followed by freshman Tyler Cosma (Center Moriches, N.Y.), who was 25th with a time of 4:42.61. Freshman Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 43rd (4:54.34), junior Nathan Ouellette (Wells, Maine) was 48th with a personal-best time of 4:56.38, freshman Anthony Maida (Peabody, Mass.) placed 54th (5:01.79), and senior Clay Harman (Broad Brook, Conn.) finished 57th with a personal-best time of 5:11.34.
A pair of Leopards – junior Josh Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) and Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) – competed in the 3,000-meter run. In the 28-runner field, Gangemi finished 10th with a time of 9:16.08 while Brimeyer finished 18th with a time of 9:41.30.
The 4x440 relay team of Kaberle, Trickey, Cosma, and Skurja finished sixth out of 10 teams, crossing the line with a time of 3:40.54.
Freshman Nick Massauro (Ashland, Mass.) and sophomore Zachary Shelton (North Attleboro, Mass.) each competed in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the shot put, Massauro placed 10th with a best throw of 10.53 meters (34 feet, 6.75 inches) while Shelton was 12th after recording a best throw of 8.99 meters (29 feet, six inches). Both competed in the weight throw for the first time this season with Massauro placing 16th (6.68 meters (21 feet, 11 inches)) and Shelton placing 17th (6.62 meters (21 feet, 8.75 inches)).
Runners who are close to qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships will be competing in last chance meets over the next two weekends. Further details regarding these will be made available at a later time.
