WAREHAM, Mass. – Rising junior catcher Ryan Delgado of the Wentworth baseball team earned a non-roster invitation to play for his hometown team in the Cape Cod Baseball League, the Wareham Gatemen.  Delgado, who was added to the roster this week, played right field and batted ninth in the Gatemen's season opener Friday night, a 4-3, 10-inning loss against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

Delgado is expected to remain with the Gatemen through the weekend, and possibly longer, while rostered players still playing in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament make their way to the Cape at the conclusion of their season.

An Honorable Mention All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference selection this past season, Delgado enjoyed an impressive sophomore campaign for the Leopards, leading the team with a .396 (42-for-106) average with five doubles, 25 runs scored, and 17 runs batted in.  His .467 on-base percentage also led the team, while his .443 slugging percentage was second on the team.  Delgado started 35 of the 37 games in which he played, with all 35 starts coming behind the plate for the 24-16 Leopards.

The premier amateur baseball league in the nation since 1885, the Cape Cod Baseball League features many of the top collegiate players in the nation.  In 2010, 236 CCBL alumni played in the majors.  In last year's Major League Baseball draft and supplemental draft, 260 CCBL alums were drafted.
