Babson Halts Baseball's Win Streak

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) doubled twice and drove in four runs, while junior Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) scored four times and drove in three runs as the Babson College baseball team defeated visiting Wentworth, 18-2, in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Govoni Field.

The Beavers, which have won 19 of its their 22 games, improve to 26-10 overall, while the Leopards see their three-game win streak come to an end, falling to 10-14 on the year.

Senior Ryan Arena (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in, classmate David Lennon (Windermere, Fla.) had two hits and two RBI, and junior Brian McHale (Ramsey, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored for the Beavers. First-year Peter Feinman (Virginia Beach, Va.) also drove in a pair of runs in support of classmate Alex Luka (Downers Grove, Ill.), who struck out four and allowed five hits over four innings to improve to 2-1 with the win.

Freshman Aidan French (Chicago, Ill.) was 4-for-4 with a double, and RBI and a run scored for the Leopards. Senior Tyler Weninger (Chandler, Ariz.) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate, but suffered the loss on the mound to fall to 0-3 after giving up 12 earned runs on 13 hits over 3.0 innings.

Babson took a 3-0 lead in the first as Arena singled home McHale and Webber followed with a two-run double to left center. Sophomore Jake Oliger (Newtown, Conn.) led off the second with a double and scored on a single by Lennon to make it 4-0. McHale doubled to left center moving Lennon to third, and both came home on Gill's opposite-field single for a 6-0 advantage, while sophomore Sean Harrington (Walpole, Mass.) capped off the four-run rally with a sacrifice fly.

Following a scoreless third, Babson sent 15 men to the plate and scored 10 times in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gill, who led off the frame with a single, scored twice and drove in a run, while Arena had a single, a bases-loaded walk and a run scored in the inning. Webber contributed a two-run double and both Lennon and Oliger walked to drive in a run.

French got Wentworth on the board with a double to right center in the top of the fifth, and Weninger followed with an RBI single to left to cut the deficit to 17-2.

Wentworth is at Mass. Maritime on Thursday.
