BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Junior Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in to help the Massachusetts Maritime Academy baseball team rally to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 10-4, in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Hendy Field.
With the win the Buccaneers improve to 16-13 on the season while the Leopards fall to 10-15.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the home half of the second inning when sophomore Nick Haley (Hanson, Mass.) hit a one-out double and, after sophomore Jackson Simone (Seattle, Wash.) was hit by a pitch, Sances singled in Haley. Wentworth countered with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Owen Swanson (New Milford, Conn.) hit a one-out single and went to third when freshman Aidan French (Chicago, Ill.) reached on an error. Senior Tim Elrick (Plymouth, Mass.) drove them both in with a two-run single.
Wentworth added to its lead in the fourth inning as junior Ross Golebiewski (Lyme, Conn.) led off with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from senior Bryon Kucharski (East Haven, Conn.) Swanson doubled in Golebiewski and French drove in Swanson. The Buccaneers cut the lead to 4-3 in the home half of the inning as Haley had an RBI double and, after Simone grounded out to move Haley up 90 feet, Sances drove him home with a groundout.
Mass. Maritime took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning as two runs came in to score on an error and, an inning later, the hosts scored five times as senior Connor Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) led off the inning with a home run, senior Logan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass.) hit a two-run home run, senior Billy Keane (Braintree, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch, and senior Nathan Anderson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) drew a bases-loaded walk.

Freshman Brendan Winch (Bow, N.H.) fell to 2-2 with the loss as he allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and struck out a pair in three-plus innings. Senior Robby Sheldon (Dover, N.H.) pitched the first three innings, yielding one run on two hits.
