Therriault, Mayo Named All-CCC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – All 10 member institutions from the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2011-12 All-CCC Men's Basketball Team and the list of major individual award winners, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, Salve Regina University graduate student Ryan Birrell was named CCC Player of the Year and CCC Defensive Player of the Year, Endicott College freshman Andre Makris was tabbed CCC Rookie of the Year, University of New England's Ryan Knotek was honored as Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Salve Regina's Sean Foster was selected as CCC Coach of the Year, and Gordon College and Wentworth Institute of Technology captured the Team Sportsmanship Award.

The Leopards had a pair of players earn all-conference honors as junior guard Corey Therriault (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore guard Derek Mayo (Casco, Maine) were named Second Team and Honorable Mention All-CCC, respectively.

Therriault, who was a Third Team All-CCC honoree a season ago, has played in all 25 of the Leopards' games this season, starting 24. He leads the team in scoring average (11.7 points per game) and rebounding average (5.1 rebounds per game) and is also averaging 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while his 45 3-pointers made are second-most on the team. For his career Therriault has started 72 of the 79 games in which he has played, averaging 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. His 131 career 3-pointers made rank him fifth on the program's all-time list.

Mayo has started all 25 of Wentworth's contests to date and is averaging 9.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest to go along with averaging 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game – both of which lead the Leopards. He notched a career-high 22 points in a 64-55 win at Newbury on January 5 and a career-high nine assists in a 59-49 win at the University of New England on January 25. Mayo has started 54 of a possible 54 games through his two seasons, averaging 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest.

Wentworth is presently 16-9 overall and finished CCC play with a 12-6 record, which placed the Leopards second for the third consecutive season. The Black & Gold, who were also honored with the team sportsmanship award for the second straight season, open CCC Tournament play tonight against seventh-seeded Gordon.
