INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards started the game off on a 9-2 run, highlighted by four points from senior guard Kyle Henseler (Coventry, R.I.) and a three pointer from junior guard Sam Swift (Arlington, Mass.). After Gordon cut the lead to two, senior guard Kevin Fernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) hit a three to give Wentworth a 12-7 lead, part of his team-high 17 points on the afternoon. The Fighting Scots then came back to take a one-point lead following six straight points, but a layup by freshman guard Jack Connell (Walpole, Mass.) and another three by Fernandez gave the Leopards the lead back.
  • After the teams traded baskets and Gordon tied the score at 20, junior forward Jack Schaake scored four straight points to give the Leopards a four point advantage with six minutes remaining in the first half. After a pair of Gordon baskets, Fernandez stayed hot from beyond the arc, hitting two more long distance shots as Wentworth maintained its slim lead. Gordon tied the score at 30 with just under two minutes remaining, which were answered by two baskets by Henseler, part of a 6-2 run for the Leopards to close out the half.
  • Senior forward Trey Carrier (Wilton, N.H.), who had a double-double on the day with 16 points and 11 rebounds, hit four free throws early in the second half to help the Leopards push their lead up to six points. Two more free throws, as well as a pair of layups from Fernandez and freshman forward Tyler Stewart (East Taunton, Mass.) provided eight unanswered points and built Wentworth's lead up to 50-39.
  • With the Leopards still holding an 11-point lead with 10 minutes remaining, the Fighting Scots took over and went on a dominant stretch. The visitors went on a 26-1 run, with five players scoring over the seven-minute span. Gordon's Bryce Smith had nine points during the run, while David Massillon put in six. Parker Omslaer, who led all scorers with 24 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, had four points during the span as well. The advantage gave the Scots a 14 point lead with just over two minutes to play, and they were able to build even further upon it in the final minutes, picking up an 83-64 comeback win.
