INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

LEADING SCORERS:  Trey Carrier, 21; Tyler Stewart, 13; Jack Connell, 12
LEADING REBOUNDERS:  Carrier, 12
ASSIST LEADERS:  Carrier, 3; Sam Goy 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first 2:46 of the contest featured three ties as the teams traded baskets. After Suffolk junior William Rowe (Reston, Va.) hit one of two free throws, Wentworth sophomore Sam Goy hit two from the stripe to give the Leopards their first lead of the night. Seven straight points by the Rams gave the hosts a 14-8 lead when freshman Cole LeVangie (Whitman, Mass.) hit two free throws with 13:52 remaining in the half.
  • Suffolk led by as many as seven with 4:48 left after LeVangie made a layup with 4:48 left. However, a 15-3 run by the Leopards gave the Black & Gold a 38-33 lead after freshman Tyler Stewart (East Taunton, Mass.) converted a layup with 57 seconds left in the half. During the run, Stewart and Goy each had four points and Wentworth carried the five-point advantage into the break.
  • A three pointer from Goy and a layup by junior Jack Schaake (Hampton, N.H.) put Wentworth ahead, 43-33, 3:10 into the second half. A three-point play by Rowe and a three pointer from graduate student Nate Hale (Nashua, N.H.) cut the lead to six but Stewart made a layup and freshman Jack Connell (Walpole, Mass.) hit a three, making it 48-39 with 13:14 left.
  • Suffolk chipped away at the lead and trailed by three with 8:13 left after a layup from freshman Kyle Phillips (Stoughton, Mass.). Junior Sam Swift countered with a layup but the Rams went on an 11-1 run and took a 62-57 lead after a Hale basket with 3:27 to play. With 2:45 left, Stewart converted a three-point play, cutting the margin to two (62-60) and, after a missed three pointer by Suffolk, Carrier hit two free throws with 2:17 left, tying the game at 62-all.
  • Both teams missed shots on their next possessions and Wentworth had the ball with 1:33 left. Hale came up with a steal with 1:14 left but his go-ahead bid missed, giving the Leopards the ball and setting up Carrier's tiebreaking basket. On the Rams' next possession, Hale missed a layup and Wentworth gained possession off a rebound out of bounds. Stewart made a layup with 11 seconds left and Carrier hit two free throws with two seconds left to seal the win.
  • In addition to Carrier's 21 points, Stewart had 13 and Connell had 12 as the two combined to go 9-for-12 from the floor. Schaake grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Hale scored 15 points for Suffolk with LeVangie (14) and Rowe (12) also scoring in double figures.

SERIES NOTES:
