Wentworth Opens Conference Play With 3-0 Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Ben Nasman (Lenox, Mass.) and junior midfielder Josh Deschene (Webster, Mass.) each tallied a goal and an assist while senior forward John Golden (Whitman, Mass.) assisted on a pair of goals as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team shut out Eastern Nazarene, 3-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams.

The host Leopards got the only goal they would need at the 9:08 mark when Nasman fed Golden from the center line.  Golden then found a streaking Deschene who would bury a shot to the left side.  A minute and nine seconds later, Wentworth increased its lead to 2-0 when Golden's centering pass found Nasman inside the box and finished a one-on-one play with the keeper.  Senior Elliott Richmond (Amherst, Mass.) was served a corner kick from classmate Nick Brown (Somerset, Mass.) and pushed a shot to the right side with 15:10 left in the half.

Wentworth had three shots on goal in the second half, two of which resulted in an alert Lion defender knocking the ball off the line.  In the 75th minute, the Leopards appeared to go ahead 4-0, but the goal was negated due to an offside call.

Senior Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine) made two saves in the first half to pick up the win while sophomore John Longo (Needham, Mass.) stopped two shots in the second half.  Eastern Nazarene senior Andrew Trice (Quincy, Mass.) made six saves for the Lions.  The Leopards held a 27-14 shot advantage, including 19-8 in the opening 45:00.

Wentworth evens its record to 2-2 on the season (1-0 TCCC) and hosts Mass. Maritime in a non-league tilt Wednesday night.  Eastern Nazarene falls to 0-3 (0-1) and hosts UMass Boston on Tuesday.
