Men's Soccer Falls to Nichols

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Michael Schell (South Windsor, Conn.) tallied a goal and an assist, while junior keeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) turned aside 10 shots as the Nichols men's soccer team extended its win streak to four with a 3-0 win over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played on Sweeney Field.  The win was the Bison's 12th of the season, tying a program record that was set in 1963 and also tied in 1965 as well as last season.

Schell gave the Bison all the offense they would need when he took a pass from senior midfielder Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.) and tucked a shot inside the right post at 17:26.  Schell would assist on freshman midfielder Brendan Whitson's (Auburn, Mass.) goal, which was off a give and go, at 22:01.  Nichols extended its lead to 3-0 with 11:36 left in the half on a goal from senior midfielder Matthew Nash (West Springfield, Mass.), which was assisted by sophomore midfielder Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.).

Both teams had chances in the second half, combining for 26 shots (13 on goal), but both Hamilton (five second-half saves) and Wentworth senior Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine), who made eight stops in the second half, kept it a scoreless second half.

Pearsall finished the game with 11 saves, while the Bison outshot the Leopards, 27-22.

With the win Nichols improves to 12-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 in conference play.  Wentworth sees its two-game win streak come to and end, falling to 8-7-0 (6-5-0).  Both teams are in action on Saturday as Nichols is at the University of New England and Wentworth hosts Anna Maria.
