Men's Soccer Shut Out at Roger Williams

Men's Soccer Shut Out at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men’s Soccer team got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The Hawks took the lead in the first half on a heady play by Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.), who jumped in front of clearing attempt by the Leopards and was able to get a deflection off of his body. Bradley MacDonald (Topsfield, Mass.) ended up in the right place at the right time, as he was able to secure the ball and make a move past the keeper to give RWU a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, RWU added one more insurance goal in the 61st minute, as Liam Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.) sent a long pass to a streaking Jared Falconer (Ludlow, Mass.), who then beat the keeper to his left and knocked in his first goal of the season.

Falconer nearly earned his first goal earlier in the second half, as he put on a shot within the box that deflected off the cross bar. The strength of the shot bounced in front of Falconer, who attempted a bicycle kick in the box, but sent the shot just over the net.

The Hawk offense remained aggressive all day, as the Leopards were outshot 12-2 in the first half and 26-7 for the entire game.

Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) picked up the win, needed only one save in the game to earn the shutout. His Leopard counterpart Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine) stopped eight shots in the loss.

Roger Williams (5-7-1, 5-2-1 TCCC) hosts Western New England College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while Wentworth (6-6-0, 4-4-0 TCCC) has a 4:00 p.m. matchup with the University of New England on Tuesday.
