Men's Soccer Falls to Anna Maria, 3-2

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore forward Justin Hyland (Leicester, Mass.) scored his second goal of the game with 6:09 remaining in regulation to lift the Anna Maria men's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played on Sweeney Field.

The AMCATS took a 1-0 lead at the 22:51 mark when senior forward John Barbale (Charlton, Mass.) sent a pass to Hyland, who drilled a shot from the top of the box to the top right corner of the goal.  Less than a minute later the Leopards tied the score at 1-all when junior forward Josh Deschene (Webster, Mass.) took a shot, which junior keeper Mike Dandurand (Warwick, R.I.) saved.  The rebound came out to sophomore forward Matt Racca (Wakefield, R.I.), who buried a shot to the right side at 23:50.  The game remained tied at the half, despite Wentworth holding a 17-8 shot advantage.

Wentworth took a 2-1 lead at the 53:48 mark when a Racca shot was miscleared into the top left corner of the net.  The Leopards maintained the lead until the 82:30 mark when an Anna Maria throw in was batted around and inadvertently knocked into the Wentworth goal by a Leopard defender.  Hyland's goal came off a shot from the top left of the box, which ricocheted off of the right post and bounced across the goal line.

Dandurand turned aside 11 shots, including nine in the first half.  Wentworth senior keeper Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine) made four saves in the loss.  The Leopards held a 29-12 shot advantage.

The win for the AMCATS snapped a three-game losing streak as Anna Maria improved to 4-13 overall and 3-9 in TCCC play.  Anna Maria travels to Western New England on Tuesday for its season finale.  Wentworth dropped its second straight to even its record at 8-8 overall and 6-6 in league play.  The Leopards close out the regular season with a Wednesday afternoon game against Colby-Sawyer.
