Wentworth Drops Two Games

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. – The Wentworth softball team fell to 0-3 on its spring trip after the Leopards were defeated by Maine-Presque Isle, 7-4, and Milligan, 21-2, in a pair of games as a part of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic.

In the opener, the Leopards jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a senior Lizz Harvey (McConnellsburg, Pa.) home run.  After the Owls took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Wentworth tied the game at 3-all when senior Bridget Souza (Medford, Mass.) reached on an error that scored classmate Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.) and junior Samantha Altieri (Lakeville, Mass.).

Maine-Presque Isle countered with three in the bottom of the inning to take 6-3 lead and added another run in the fifth before Harvey hit her second home run of the game to round out the scoring.

In Wentworth's second game, the Buffaloes jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  Harvey, Souza, and freshman Haylee Bacik (Lowell, Mass.) each had hits for the Leopards.

Bacik got the start and took the loss in both contests.
