Wentworth Softball Team Falls Twice

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. – Wentworth's softball team was defeated in a pair of games on Wednesday morning at the 2011 Fastpitch Dreams Classic.  The Leopards lost to Penn State-Berks, 9-0, before dropping a 10-0 decision to Penn State-Altoona.

In the day's opening game, the contest was scoreless until the Nittany Lions got a pair of runs in the second inning and added five and two in the third and fourth innings, respectively.

Freshman Roniece Bridge (White Plains, N.Y.), senior Lizz Harvey (McConnellsburg, Pa.) and freshman Haylee Bacik (Lowell, Mass.) each had a base hit, while freshman Amanda O'Neil (Revere, Mass.) recorded a double for the Leopards.  Bacik took the loss in the circle.

Penn State-Altoona scored three runs in the top of the first inning and gradually built on that lead to take the win in the Leopards' second contest of the day.  Bridge, senior Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.) and junior Samantha Altieri (Lakeville, Mass.) each had a hit, while defensively, senior Bridget Souza (Medford, Mass.) had a pair of pickoffs from behind the plate at third base.

Wentworth wraps up its spring break trip on Thursday when the Leopards face Penn State-Altoona at 11:30 a.m.
