SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference announced the 2017 golf all-conference teams and major award winners on Wednesday afternoon. Student-athletes from five of the seven CCC golf teams were named All-CCC honorees.

The top golfer from CCC Champion Endicott, Athan Goulos (Peabody, Mass.), was voted as the 2017 CCC Golfer of the Year and CCC Championship Medalist, Patrick Hesseltine (Westford, Mass.) from Nichols, was voted the Rookie of the Year. Western New England's Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was selected as the Senior Scholar-Athlete. Endicott's Tom Smith was named the Coach of the Year, while Nichols and Wentworth were both honored with Team Sportsmanship awards.

Voting for the All-CCC teams and each of the major awards was conducted by the conference's seven golf head coaches in the week following the CCC Spring Championship.

Seven golfers, including Goulos, Hesseltine, and Fontaine, were named to the all-conference first team. Goulos's Endicott teammate Ben Palazzo (Farmington, Conn.) was also a First Team Selection. John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) and Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) joined Fontaine as the Golden Bears on the first team. University of New England senior Sam Kinasewich (Sandwich, Mass.) was the final member of the All-CCC First Team.

There were also seven members on the All-CCC Second Team. Endicott and Wentworth each had two honorees with Drew Benshoff (Concord, Mass.) and Christopher Billings (Portland, Maine) representing the Gulls and junior Paul Arsenault (Middleton, Mass.) and senior Zach Sousa (Middleboro, Mass.) representing the Leopards. Nichols, UNE, and Western New England each had one golfer selected to the second team with Nick Wage (Holden, Mass.), Michael Rich (Winthrop, Mass.), and Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) representing each school, respectively.

Arsenault enjoyed the finest season of his three-year career, placing in the top 10 on three occasions, including when he shot a career-best 71 (+1) when Wentworth defeated Eastern Nazarene on October 12. He was named the CCC Golfer of the Week for his efforts. In 10 rounds he had a stroke average of 82.3. In 34 career rounds he had cracked the top 10 seven times and has a stroke average of 84.97.

Sousa also played in 10 rounds this season for the Leopards and had a stroke average of 81.9, which included a pair of top 10 finishes. Sousa, who enjoyed the finest season of his career, had a career-best 74 in Wentworth's win over Eastern Nazarene on October 12. In 19 career rounds, he finished with a stroke average of 86.43.
