Men's Tennis Closes Out Fall Season With Win

WESTON, Mass. – The Wentworth men's tennis team concluded its fall season with an 8-1 win at Regis on Thursday afternoon. With the win the Leopards go to 1-0 while the Pride fall to 0-3.

Regis grabbed its lone point of the day at No. 2 doubles as the tandem of Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) defeated Dylan Melnik (Wake Forest, N.C.) and Andy Chen (New Tapei City, Taiwan), 8-3. The Leopards picked up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles as Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) and Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) defeated the Regis No. 1 doubles team of Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Hunter Cawley (Wimberley, Texas), 8-4.

Wentworth's James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and Sean Murray (North Brookfield, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) in No. 3 doubles.

The Leopards sealed the match by taking all six singles matches en route to the 8-1 victory. Rodriguez defeated Beluch in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Filar defeated HCawley in the No. 2 singles spot with a 6-1, 6-3 win. James Drum needed a tie-break to defeat White in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0), and Melnik defeated Nop, 6-2, 6-1. Chen and Jia Lee (Weymouth, Mass.) picked up wins for the Leopards at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

The Pride return to the courts tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 3:30 p.m. matchup with the Lions. Wentworth returns to action in the spring with a non-league game against Anna Maria on March 20.
