BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) won a pair of matches and didn't drop a game in singles play to lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over host Wheelock College this evening in a match at the Winsor Courts in Boston, Mass.  The Leopards improve to 6-6 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-13 in their season finale.
 
Filar defeated Wheelock senior Jeff Silveria (Wilmington, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0 at second singles, following an 8-1 victory with freshman doubles partner James Drum (Madison, Conn.) over Silveria and sophomore Charles Armstrong-Hicks (Windsor, Conn.) at the number one spot.  Drum won his singles match as well over Armstrong-Hicks at number one with a 6-0, 6-1 decision.
 
Junior Andy Chen (New Taipei City, Taiwan) was the victor at third singles for Wentworth, beating sophomore Caelin Mooney (Rensselaer, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-0, following an 8-1 victory at second doubles with sophomore Dylan Melnik (Wake Forest, N.C.) over the Wildcats' tandem of Mooney and junior Claire O'Donoghue (East Haven, Conn.).  Melnik was a double winner on the night as well for the Leopards, taking fifth singles over sophomore Rosie Camara (Bristol, R.I.), 6-0, 6-0.  Freshman Sean Murray (North Brookfield, Mass.) cruised past O'Donoghue at number four singles, 6-0, 6-1 for Wentworth and teamed with freshman Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) to gain a win at third doubles over Camara and junior Sunshine Shearer (English Harbour, Antigua).  The Wheelock pair had to retire during the match due to an injury.  Dowd also earned the win at sixth singles when his opponent from the home team couldn't compete due to an injury.
 
The Leopards will be in action again on April 24 when they host Roger Williams University in a 4:00 p.m. match to be played at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
