Robbins Competes at NCAA Division III Championships

ELSAH, Ill. – Senior Alex Robbins (Mansfield, Mass.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology cross country team put a wrap on a fantastic career with a 143rd place finish at the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships, which were held at the North Farm Facility and hosted by Principia College.

Robbins completed the eight-kilometer course with a time of 25:44.2, which was his third-fastest time this season and just 1.2 seconds slower than his second-fastest time which was established last weekend at the NCAA Regionals.

On a day where inclement weather had an impact on the 279-runner field, Robbins averaged 5:10.6 per mile and found himself in 119th place at the three-mile mark and was 122nd after four miles. Robbins missed finishing in the top half of the field by less than a second.

North Central repeated as national champions, winning for the 18th time in program history. The Cardinals finished with a team score of 57, followed by Wisconsin-LaCrosse (196), Christopher Newport (221), and Amherst (251).

Robbins finishes his career as a four-time All-Commonwealth Conference performer, the 2017 CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and a 2017 USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Cross Country All-Region honoree. He is one of five seniors on the Leopards who, as the first four-year class in Leopard cross country varsity history, won three straight CCC Championships (after finishing second as freshmen), and sent a runner to the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons.
