Fast Start Lifts Emerson Past Women's Lacrosse

BOSTON, Mass. - A 13-goal first half helped lift Emerson College to a 20-3 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team in a non-conference matchup on Thursday night at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Lions improve to 4-2 while the Leopards fall to 2-5.

Wentworth's lone goals of the half came from senior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) and Liz Glavin as senior Guerin Morissette's (Georgetown, Maine) scored at the 13:30 mark to cap off a string of 13 goals that gave Emerson a lengthy 13-2 lead at the end of the half.

Freshman Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) contributed the Black & Gold's third goal in the second, but the Lions tacked an additional seven goals to put the game away at 20-3.

Morrissette finished with four goals and an assist while senior Kate Lemire (Scituate, Mass.) and freshman Emily Quinn had three apiece. Senor Taylor Righini (Salem, N.H.) had two goals and four assists on the night.

Senior Victoria Kanaris (Haworth, N.J.) made three saves through 60 minutes. Morissette scooped up four ground balls while junior Meredith Weber (West Caldwell, N.J.) had five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Senior Hayley Patton (Cronston, R.I.) made 11 saves in just over 45 minutes of work before giving way to freshman Liz Gunning (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) who had a pair of saves. Freshman Caitlin McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) picked up seven ground balls.

Emerson held the advantage in draw controls (19-6), shots (40-8) and ground balls (21-16).

Wentworth travels to Mass. Maritime on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., while Emerson faces Union (N.Y.) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
