Paradis Sets Seasonal Marks in Women's Lacrosse's Loss at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. - Senior Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) tallied six goals and four assists to help pace the Gordon College women's lacrosse team to a 16-8 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Fighting Scots improve to 5-8 overall and 4-2 in CCC play while the Leopards falls to 2-12 (0-6).

Freshman Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.), who would finish with four goals for Wentworth established seasonal marks for goals (35) and points (44).

Castelline kick started Gordon's offense to put the Fighting Scots on the board first at the 28:12 mark and found the back of the net four more times through next five minutes to bring the lead to 5-0. Wentworth got on the board on an unassisted goal from senior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) at 17:01 and was followed up with a goal from junior Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) a minute later to bring the score to 5-2. Freshman Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Castelline helped piece together three more Gordon goals through the next two minutes to put the Fighting Scots up 8-2 before Paradis cut the lead to five at 8-3 at 13:17. With seven minutes remaining in the first half, Gordon added an additional three goals to put the score at 11-3.

Senior Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) capped of a three-goal attack for Gordon at 23:03 as the Fighting Scots gave itself an 11-goal cushion at 14-3 to begin the second half. Wentworth began to chip away at Gordon's lead on back-to-back markers from junior Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.) and Paradis to make the score 14-5. After sophomore Cassidy Allen (Rensselaer, N.Y.) put Gordon's 15th goal in the back of the net, Paradis scored two more goals to cut the lead to eight at 15-7. Castelline set up junior Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) for the Fighting Scots' 16th and final goal at 4:02. Sophomore Alissa Cirio (Valhalla, N.Y.) tallied the eighth Leopards' goal with 13 ticks left on the clock.

Sophomore Zita Nagel (Wayland, Mass.) saved eight shots through 60 minutes in the win for Gordon. Along with Castelline, freshman Hannah Bourk (Barrington, R.I.) tallied three goals followed up with two goals from Grinnell. Grinnell also had 10 draw control wins as Walton scooped up four ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Senior Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) saved 17 shots in the loss and also had three caused turnovers. In addition to her four goals, Paradis had three draw control wins and scooped up four ground balls.

Gordon held the 20-6 draw control edge, as well as shots (43-21) and ground balls (21-20). Wentworth went 4-for-8 in free-position shots, while Gordon went 5-for-10.

Wentworth hosts Salve Regina on Saturday.
