SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – All nine institutions that sponsor women's volleyball from the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2011 All-CCC Women's Volleyball Team, as announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, five major individual award winners and a team sportsmanship award winner was also selected. Roger Williams University senior Marybeth Torpey was named CCC Player of the Year, Endicott College freshman Alexandra Gearin was named CCC Rookie of the Year, Roger Williams junior Kelsee Loche was named CCC Libero of the Year, Salve Regina University senior Julianne Barry was named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Salve Regina coach Lindsay Marshall was named CCC Coach of the Year, and Curry College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award. Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC volleyball coaches.
Wentworth senior middle hitter Julie Bruton (Montgomery, Texas) closed out her stellar career by being named Honorable Mention All-CCC.
Bruton, who also earned honorable mention all-conference accolades during both her freshman and sophomore seasons, played in 101 of a possible 101 sets over 29 matches this past season for the Leopards. She recorded 209 kills, an attack percentage of .233, 54 service aces, 284 digs, and 54 total blocks. Her attack percentage, aces, digs, and total blocks all led the team, and also recorded the second-most amount of kills for the Black & Gold. In a 3-2 win at Newbury, she tallied a career-high 17 kills and had a career-high 20 digs in a 3-1 loss at St. Joseph's (Maine).
The program's all-time leader in matches played (112), sets played (381), and block solos (95), Bruton ranks second on Wentworth's all-time list with 881 kills, 2,439 attack attempts, 965 digs, 1,196 points, and a .199 attack percent. Her 177 total blocks rank her third on the program's all-time list while her 179 service aces are fourth in program history.
Under the direction of second-year head coach Jenn Kelemen, Wentworth finished the season with a 14-15 record and qualified for the CCC Tournament for the first time since the 2006 season. The 14 wins ties a program record, which was set when the Leopards were 14-14 during the 2005 campaign.
